In spite of this, it managed to win a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.g-mark.org\/award\/describe\/26920?token=g89d2OKgNm\">Good Design Award<\/a> in 1966 &#8211; the year of the Beatles&#8217; <em>Yellow Submarine<\/em> &#8211; and looks as if it could have been plucked straight out of the psychedelic <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yellow_Submarine_(film)\">animated film<\/a> of the same name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_F-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_F-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Pentel Sharp 7\" class=\"wp-image-392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_F-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_F-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_F-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_F-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_F-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With its bulbous pocket clip, triangular barrel and flower-power influenced number 7 logo, the Sharp 7 is like nothing else Pentel made before or after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_A_crop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_A_crop-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Pentel Sharp 7 clip detail\" class=\"wp-image-387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_A_crop-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_A_crop-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_A_crop-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_A_crop-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_A_crop-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on what little evidence I have found, it was available in two models, the 7A in black and 7D in green (it&#8217;s a shame they didn&#8217;t do it in yellow). The chrome plating was also prone to pitting and flaking, revealing the darker brass underneath. Perhaps these flaws explain both its short-lived existence in Pentel&#8217;s range and its scarcity today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_03-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_03-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Pentel Sharp 7 three view\" class=\"wp-image-385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_03-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_03-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_03-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_03-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/pentel_sharp7_03-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a pity, because the Sharp 7&#8217;s triangular barrel is very light and comfortable to hold for extended periods, despite the lack of a textured grip. The broad, short clip also does not get in the way when rotating the pencil in the hand, an important consideration for a fixed clip design.
