{"id":1727,"date":"2025-10-07T13:27:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T13:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/graphography.org\/?p=1727"},"modified":"2026-07-16T15:29:56","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T15:29:56","slug":"thornton-1962-catalogue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/graphography.org\/index.php\/2025\/10\/07\/thornton-1962-catalogue\/","title":{"rendered":"Thornton 1962 catalogue"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For all the Thorntonites out there, I have uploaded my recently acquired 1962 AG Thornton Ltd <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/thornton_1962_catalogue\/thornton_1962_catalogue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">catalogue<\/a> (9.6 MB PDF) and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/thornton_1962_catalogue\/thornton_1962_price_list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">price list<\/a> (1.7 MB PDF) to the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Internet Archive<\/a>. The price list came loose inside the catalogue and is dated February 1962.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/thornton_1962_price_list.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/thornton_1962_price_list-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Thornton price list of February 1962\" class=\"wp-image-1725\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/thornton_1962_price_list-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/thornton_1962_price_list-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/thornton_1962_price_list-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/thornton_1962_price_list-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/graphography.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/thornton_1962_price_list-2048x1366.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the introductory text, Thornton had almost completely overhauled their drawing instrument range since the previous catalogue of summer 1961, with just four sets from the old range remaining on page 10. For those interested in slide rules, 1962 also saw the introduction of Thornton&#8217;s &#8220;new plastic double face type PIC slide rules&#8221; range (bizarrely only one of which actually used the second face for scales).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This catalogue joins my 1967 and 1970 copies (pictured in the main image) to round out the decade.
